Start the New Year By Starting a New Habit

Start the New Year out right.  It is so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life.  Make time each day for your devotions.  This will help you in all areas of your life.  Make it a habit each morning to start the day by reading God's Word and praying.  This will help you to have a better attitude.  It will help you to remember God is on your side.

I like to use devotional books.  It helps me to stay focused on  a certain grace or subject.  Reading the verses and a  devotional that goes with it will help you to understand what God is speaking to you about.  It helps to bring it home to your situation.

God is With You.

God is with you.  Look back over your life and think of the times He was there for you.  Take some time as the new year begins to think about how God has been with you throughout the years.  He was there in the good times and in the bad times.  No matter what.  Things may not have gone the way you wanted them too.  But God was there.  Thank Him for His goodness and faithfulness.

The Birth of Jesus

Luke 2

New International Version (NIV)

The Birth of Jesus

'2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them."

When Jesus was born, his earthly family was not rich.  He would not live a life of luxury.  He was born in a manger.  A manger was a place where the animals were.  The angels that pronounced his birth did not tell the king.  They told the poor shepherds that were out in the field with there sheep.

If you are having financial difficulties this Christmas and can't buy the gifts that you would like to buy for your children and family, remember the birth of Jesus.  Joseph and Mary did the best the could.  They loved and cared for their little family.  They loved and trusted in God.  That is what is required of us--to love our families and to love and trust in God.

A Dear Friend Went Home

I went to a funeral for a dear friend of mine.  I hadn't seen her in several years.  To be honest I had gotten so busy with my life that I kind of forgot about her.  Then I got the call that she had passed away.

She was a little older than me and when I started going to church she became my mentor.  She took me under her wing.  I don't think she ever knew how much she encouraged and helped me.  She took care of the nursery for years and I was able to help her.  From this time with her I learned that I really could work with children.  That is a big thing for someone with very little confidence  like me.

She was a dedicated Christian and kept going no matter what.  She had some pretty tough times in her life but she kept on believing and trusting in the Lord.

I know that she is in Heaven now and enjoying the whole experience!
