Is the Past Keeping You From Enjoying Your Day?

All of us have things that happen to us that hurt us. People say things or do things to us. We get passed over for a raise. Our children don't do what we have taught them is right. There are so many things that happen that over a period of time all these things can cause us to be depressed. It can cause us not to enjoy our life and not to enjoy our loved ones.

In a book by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale called "Enthusiasm Makes the Difference" he tells of a way to get rid of the past hurts and pains. He calls it "Mental Ventilation". He says that we need to daily empty our minds of the dark thoughts, regrets, resentments, and the like. If you allow them to stay in your mind it effects your whole being.

Maybe someone says a sharp word to you, or an insinuating remark, a hostile act by someone else. These things can cause undo worry and stress. The way to practice mental ventilation is in the following steps:

  1. Review all the things that happened to you today that upset you or hurt you.
  2. Review all your own mistakes, errors or stupidity.
  3. Review all the disappointments, frustrations, and every form of unhappiness that clouded the preceding hours.
  4. Hold these in a strong mental view, deliberately drawing from them all the experience and understanding they had to give.
  5. Then lump all these together and then mentally drop them out of your consciousness.
  6. Then say, "Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before...(Philippians 3:13)
This will take some practice each day, but will pay great benefits!

Withlacoochee River Park

Hello
I thought I would share these photos. I took them at the Withlacoochee River Park in Dade City, Florida. It is a beautiful park. It has walking trails, bike trails, a tower you can climb and all kinds of interesting things to do. I took pictures of the replica church, home, and trading post. I hope you enjoy them.

Help Teaching Sunday School

I teach Sunday School at our church. I enjoy it but it is work. I often wonder if I am getting through to my little students. I try to go over my lesson and prepare as much as I can. But sometimes I feel there is something missing.

I found a free Mini-Course on Great Bible Teaching. It has some good information that I want to put into practice. It is written by Glen Brooke and brings out four points required for Great Bible teaching.

  1. Excellent lesson content

  2. A prepared teacher

  3. Receptive students

  4. Teaching as a means to convey God's truth

In his material he says the first critical questions is : What should you teach? Your students need to receive instruction, correction, and training that comes from the Bible.

There are two basic ways to creat a lesson:

  • Create your own lesson from Bible study that you have done.
  • Use or adapt a pre-made lesson someone else has created.

Is Fear Holding You Back?

Is fear holding you back? Is there something you want to do but are afraid to do it? Is it the fear of looking foolish? Is it the fear of failing? Is the fear of making someone angry?

Ask yourself, "What is the worst case scenario?" Now, how likely is that to happen? Probably it won't happen. But if it does, can you have a plan B in place? Will that help you- just knowing you have another plan?

Think and then Speak

I seem to be having a hard time thinking before I speak. This is not good. At least not for me. I say things that are sarcastic or unkind without thinking. Then I am always sorry. I think it is good to think about what I say first instead of afterwards.

If you have this problem, maybe these three tips will help you.
  1. Listen to the other person and then form your answer.
  2. Ask yourself if you would like this to be seen in writing.
  3. Close your eyes and think about your Mom.

To Grow Spiritually

In Stormie Omartian's book, "The Power of a Praying Woman", she says that women want to have a closeness with God and that we want Him to affirm that we are good and desirable. If this is our desire we need to spend time praying for ourselves. We need to ask God to fill us with His Spirit. The emptiness that you feel is put there by God so that you will search for Him. God is waiting for us to search for Him.

Answer to Linda's Comment asking for help with her blog.

Hi
I just now saw your comment asking how to set up your blog. I apologize for taking so long. I use the blogger videos. You can find them in the help section. I can understand them better. I don't know how to answer back to comments on my blog. The only thing I know to do is write an answer as a blog post. I hope that helps.

How are Your New Year's Resolutions Coming?

I have been going over my list of resolutions for this year. I have done good with about two or three of them. The rest of them, the ones that are the most important and the hardest to keep a handle on I pretty much have forgotten about. Well, I have put them off I guess. It is time for a review and a new resolve to do them. Below is a quote from the book, "The Power of a Praying Woman" by Stormie Omartian:

"I have come to know that God can smooth my path, calm the storms, keep me and all I care about safe, and even make my way simple when I ask Him to carry the complexities of life for me. But these things don't just happen. Not without prayer."

I have started reading this book and hope to bring you some of the things that help me. If you would like to read along with me click below for a copy.

Peanut Allergies are Serious

I had no idea how serious peanut allergies were until I found out my grandson was allergic to them. He had just turned one year old and found a little piece of peanutbutter cookie on the floor and ate it. Within minutes hives broke out on him and he started having a hard time breathing. My daughter called the pediatrition and she said to give him a children's liquid allergy medicine. It stopped it really quick.

Peanut Allergies are on the rise. The number of children with allergies to peanuts is almost doubled over the past five or six years. No one is completely sure why. There are dangers everywhere. The peanut oil used in frying at some fast food places. Crumbs from peanut butter sandwiches or cookies can lead to a reaction.

Protect your child by learning what the signs of a peanut allergy are. Some signs are hives, throat tightening, wheezing and or vomiting. If these happen, seek medical attention immediately. One online resource is Food Allergy Initiative.

Grandparents have the Right to See Their Grandchildren

If you are a Grandparent, you have the right to see your grandchildren. Grandparents have rights in every state to see their grandchildren. Unfortunately, this may mean a battle through the court system. I know how the court system can be intimidating to law abiding citizens. Knowing your rights and understanding the system will help in your battle to see your grandchildren.

Having a CT Scan

I had my CT Scan. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. They did a scan of my head. They did a contrast and a non-contrast. The contrast is where they inject you with some type of dye so they can see what goes on in the veins. The machine was noisy but not too loud. I did not have to take my clothes off. I just had to take off any metal belts or anything like that. They told me to lie down on the bench. It had something for my head to fit in. I went into the machine and back out several times. Then it was over. They said the Doctor would have the results in about 24 to 48 hours. I haven't heard anything so far.

I hope this helps if anyone is going to have to have a CT Scan.

CT Scan

I am going in for a CT Scan tomorrow. It is a little scarey. I read up on it a little bit online. I am not sure what they will find. Whatever it is I will deal with it. My husband is my support. It is not as bad as what my cousin is going through. She is in a wheelchair most of the time. Also, her grandson has cancer and it does not look good for him. He is seven years old.

My little problems don't seem so bad compared to theirs. I will post tomorrow and tell of my experiences in hopes it helps someone else.
